The Skiing
The New Les Arcs/La Plagne link makes this ski area the 2nd largest in the world!
This is the claim of the tourist office of Les
Arcs/Bourg saint Maurice and
La Plagne. The new linked ski area boasts 425 kms of
ski-piste, 3 glaciers, 2 peaks over 3,000 meters, Villaroger, the
longest ski-piste in Europe (7 kms) and a new express double decker
cable car(4 minute ride) and a Funicular that takes just 7 minutes
to rise 650 meters!
Small lift queues, fantastic boarding areas,
off-piste, Les Arcs/La Plagne offer skiing & snow-boarding for all abilities and walks, golf, tennis, VTT and hundreds
of other summer recreation activities for all the family.
The area is also well known for its ski-touring
routes with attainable summits of between 3000 and
3800 metres altitude, such as the Archeboc and Ruitor
peaks. You can also link up to the Italian valleys of
Valgrisenche and Val d'Aosta just over the summit ridge
that forms the border between France and Italy.
The Val d'Aosta is also renowned for its heli-skiing, one of the few remaining
places in Europe where it is not banned. Thanks to its border with
this Italian valley, this area is one of the only places in France
where heli-skiing is still possible.
